Samplers

Charlotta

Charlotta’s sampler is not just a collection of alphabets and motifs, it is also the records of a family. In her sampler she stitched the initials and date of birth of what is believed to be her parents and two siblings.

H.S. 1986

HS sampler is a small dual colored Norwegian sampler dated 1896.

This is a charming little sampler and would make a wonderful introduction to stitching historical samplers, although it could also be stitched in the colors of your choice, and with your own initials, or date on it.

'A' Sampler 1914

‘A’ sampler is dated 1914, and apart from the fact that the sampler was found in Norway, there is unfortunately no other information about it.

Presumably stitched by a child, the sampler features a good selection of colorful and fun motifs, and borders.

The sampler is worked entirely in cross stitch, apart for a border in eyelet stitch and one in satin stitch, and would be a delight to stitch for anyone who love authentic sampler reproductions.

If stitched on 28ct linen/ 14ct aida the pattern will measure:

8,14" x 7,64" / 20,6 x 19,4 cm

M.E. sampler

This colorful sampler is worked mostly in cross stitch, but with some motifs in double cross stitch, and a long cross stitch basket (?) under the main initial. It is undated, though most probably dating from the second half of the 1800’s.

Along with the classic uppercase, and lowercase alphabet and numerals, the sampler also has four decorative border strips and several little motifs which could be used for other projects too.

A delightful collection of four small Norwegian school samplers.

Two of them were stitched by girls who shared a similar last name, and two very similar ones were stitched four years apart in two separate schools.

The samplers are stitched in cross stitch, Algerian eyes and Gobelin stitch.

Hariet Roalsen

A charming 1881 Scandinavian sampler, worked in cross stitch and Algerian eye stitches.

Beautiful Norwegian sampler stitched in 1886 by Inga Kristensen, the sampler has alphabets, borders, and small motifs.

Mermaid sampler

This sampler is inspired by antique needlework, alphabet booklets and other vintage pieces.

It features a famous quotation accredited to John Adams the 2nd president of the United States.

“Always stand on principle. Even if you stand alone “

There is a space where you can personalize your sampler with the name and date of your choice; an extra alphabet and numeral is included in the PDF.

Apart for the mermaid, the rest of the sampler is not charted in color, this is done so that you can chose according to your preference, or what you have available in your stash. Variegated threads, hand-dyed floss, metallics or even beads can be used to stitch the alphabets and borders.

Stitches used are: Cross stitch, back stitch, running stitches (also known as Holbein stitch) and petit point.

Precious time sampler

This beautiful cross stitch pattern is adapted from an antique English sampler, stitched in 1771 by a girl named Elizabeth Garratt.

Because the sampler lacked some letters ( J and U ) , I have added these along with the modern spelling of words, this has made the size/shape slightly different from the original.

There is a space on the lower end of the sampler to stitch your own name, and date.

Design Area: 154 x 257 stitches

If stitched on 28 ct linen/ 14 ct aida the pattern will measure :

Mini sampler

This mini, antique sampler is just so cute, re-charted from an antique clipping it is perfect for a new beginner in cross stitch, as a miniature sampler for a doll house, or even as a filet crochet project.

Why not stitch it into a nice cushion over, or try it as knitted sampler in fair isle. ?

'On youth' sampler

This pattern is charted from a sampler in my collection, the original was stitched by an 8 year old girl in 1803.

Since the sampler was full of mistakes and old spelling (For example using F for the long S), I tried to get the essence of it by charting the alphabet, details and the poem.
